About Gillo Dorfles

Angelo Dorfles, known as Gillo, was an Italian art critic, painter and philosopher. He was Professor of Aesthetics at the universities of Milan, Trieste and Cagliari, and Visiting Professor at some American universities.
In 1948 he was among the founders of the MAC (Movement for Concrete Art). Art critic and artist himself, he was the author of numerous monographs on artists of various eras (Bosch, Dürer, Feininger, Wols, Scialoja); he has also published two volumes dedicated to architecture (Baroque in modern architecture and Modern architecture) and a famous essay on industrial design (Industrial design and its aesthetics).
He contributed significantly to the development of post-war Italian aesthetics. With his publications he has not only deepened strictly artistic themes, but has curiously investigated various aspects of contemporary society. His extensive bibliography records numerous reprints and his books are translated into a dozen languages.
